SARTORIAZA

Leading Fashion duo Mahdi Sekandari and Riley Mikic from Sartoriaza are motivated gentlemen on a journey of unlocking the secrets of how to dress your best. Sartorial relates to all things to do with clothing and the style of dressing, and the Sartoriaza duo is all about unfolding the details of menswear and the sartorial nature of fashion.
ENTER THE WORLD OF sartoriaza
In our everyday lives, sometimes the consideration of fashion choices is kept to a minimal. We know what we like, and we are able to put together a fit based on what makes us comfortable. What if we knew the art and secret of the seams we wear? Would that make a difference to how we act, where we spend our dollars and how we feel?

With an elegant theme of luxe and maturity across their work, it was enjoyable to learn the details of formal and casual menswear from Sartoriaza. This duo is passionate about detailing how we dress, all the way down to the fold of your pant. Bandit Press sat with both members of Sartoriaza to find out more on how they came across their Sartorial journey, and what impact it has had on them.

Mahdi had mentioned,

“Being surrounded by luxury clothing and watches has influenced me daily. Looking and dressing your best is a statement of your personal style, your values and what you stand for. Luxury clothing has influenced me to consistently dress my best and as presentable as possible.”

He further went on to note,

“Dressing in classic menswear also makes me seem older than my age, which has a direct correlation with maturity.”

It seems that the way Mahdi has dressed has directly impacted how he is in life. A more mature expression as a result of the way that we dress is a fascinating concept! He went on to stress the impact of fashion and presentation.

Primary school friends Riley and Mahdi, now in their early 20’s, had not always shared this passion for fashion or blogging, but it did bring them on a new venture together with Sartoriaza! Mahdi’s father works as a tailor, which has definitely created an avenue to menswear, resulting in his journey with men’s fashion towards the end of his high school years.
Riley had an eye for fashion, coming about after reflecting on the way he felt with the way he had dressed in his early university years. From here, Riley did a deep dive into menswear and on the specificities on how to dress through online magazines, videos and countless forms of fashion inspirations!

Both Mahdi and Riley came together in September of 2020 and created what we now know as Sartoriaza. With an active platform of 550+ followers on Instagram, and the announcement of their website, the duo are growing with each passing day, both within Sartoriaza and with brand collaborations.

With a large collection of clothing and accessories across their instagram, the duo propose that owning expensive menswear is not ideal for many who would still like to dress well.

On money and clothing, Riley had mentioned,

“You can look great on a budget, however, realistically speaking any reasonable budget is not going to compete with bespoke. That is not to say a budget limits how good you can look. Even if your style is wearing denim with various shirts and outerwear, that can still look amazing. As a part-time worker and university student, I definitely have to budget my wardrobe and choose pieces that I can get the maximum usage out of, which is what we aim to help people with on Sartoriaza.”

This is quite optimistic, and opens an avenue for other students and males looking to freshen up the way they dress.

Mahdi had further noted that money has no direct correlation with how well you dress.

“Although having money does provide you the opportunity to purchase pieces of higher quality, it is still possible to shop smart and efficiently on a tight budget. As university students, this is most certainly the case for most of us, as studying full-time does not allow us to have the luxury of spending without limit on clothing. You can purchase pieces of clothing which are not as highly valued, although with a few tailored alterations, it can be transformed completely and look twice its retail value.”

He mentioned that an individual can make anything look good, depending on fit, colours and style.

Having a detailed level of knowledge, and a niche style of dress, we looked into the men that influenced both Mahdi and Riley on their journey.

Speaking on his style influences, Riley mentioned his appreciation for the Italian style of fashion, notably Allesandro Squarzi. “The way he wears military jackets and mixes them with tailoring and casual looks is done so well. His style really has matured and has an ease to it, which is the whole sense of sprezzatura, which is so difficult to truly achieve.”

Along with the influence of his father, Mahdi mentioned his similar likes for Italian fashion and their take on sprezzatura, which is an art to make what one does with purpose, look as if executed with no effort at all. Mahdi’s icons include Simon Crompton, Giorgio Giangiulio, Massimo Pirrone and Fabio Attanasio. “These gentlemen curate fabrics and tones beautifully and are certainly an influence on my personal style.”

Both the duo hold a similar eye for fashion, allowing for a wonderful blend of ideas into what is Sartoriaza. Their attention to detail and respect for the craftsmanship behind clothing and design is fascinating. Something which would seem as simple as picking out your dress t-shirt, is an entire process as well. And yes, Sartoriaza already has a blog post on this!

Both Riley and Mahdi have a thorough understanding of fashion, and it is evident they have spent time on learning and constantly getting better at improving their knowledge bank on style. It was truly a pleasure getting to sit with Sartoriaza and getting to know a bite size amount of the knowledge they hold with fashion and lifestyle.

The duo does have a lot planned for the future, and we look forward to catching up with Riley and Mahdi later on in their young journey. Keep posted with them here!
