With over 100 songs composed, and 75 of them written in 2 months, Meers has illustrated the passion he holds for music through the dedication he has given.

Since then, an array of music has been published through Bandit Records, gaining the attention of music streaming giant Spotify, whose curators designed an editorial playlist called "This Is Meers", combining a number of hits and fan favourites from the artist, solidifying his presence on the platform.

This is no ordinary feat for an upcoming artist, and for good reason. Meers has a unique voice, to say the least. Fuelled by power and emotion, he seems to sing with no effort at all.

Ranging from the mystical and mythical “The Earth Song,” to the dark rock-style track “The Tragedy of Love,” it is no easy task pinning his style down. Starting out with songs like “Don’t Tell The Circus,” a beautiful symphonic trap beat melody, to his latest releases of classical compositions and musical theatre - there is most definitely something for everyone.

Artists usually identify with a specific genre, which makes sense for the most part. However, Meers tends to stray away from a conventional structure in his music. It is much easier to pitch an artist with a definitive aesthetic to a very specific crowd - but what about an artist with no definitive aesthetic at all?

We asked Meers to elaborate on his music:

"Personally, I've done my best to not describe my music. Growing up, I felt like describing or categorising a skill or talent that I knew I was going to pursue would inhibit my ability to think outside the box. For example, when I started singing, I listened to a lot of crooner type musicians, with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, etc.

In my first vocal lesson, my singing teacher asked me what type of music I wanted to sing, and I referred back to crooner. I would spend months not being able to sing in a crooner voice, and months being disappointed. I stopped trying to sing crooner type music like the musicians I listened to, and started singing like myself. That is when I found my voice. That is when I found my purpose. That is when I found the voice and sound of Meers."

The sound of Meers! Ah, to find one’s own voice, could there be a desire more fitting for an artist? Meers’ creative thinking and passion for self-exploration and expression is evident in his current and upcoming work. Booked in for November 19th, 2021, Meers will be performing at the self titled musical, King Meers: The Musical
King Meers tells the tale of our little prince Samos, a God who haunts the heavens with his devilish voice and abominable demeanour.
Picture
Samos is a nonconformist God whose daily activities include not adhering to societal & heavenly standards. He enjoys visiting Hell after supper and convinces himself that punishment is both a method of discipline and a form of dessert.

Filled with song and magic, this mystical performance may just change the way you understand the limitless essence of music!

Being in his early 20's and having such a diverse aesthetic in music, it is fascinating to delve into the influences Meers has had in the past, extending to the music he has been exposed to. Meers has a variety of influences in his musical taste book. These influences range from Disney’s Aladdin, The Book Of Mormon, Beetlejuice on Broadway and Lin Manuel Miranda’s In The Heights, to his favourite bands, in the likes of Tenacious D, McFly and The Rat Pack. It is evident that music is a large part of Meers’ life, and he holds a large library for reference.

On the role of music in his childhood, Meers explained:

"Growing up in Lebanon, music is everywhere. Whether the ever-present disco bop on the streets of Beirut, or the latest pop music, the songs I listened to growing up are ones I will always remember. I never played an instrument as a child, but I sang a lot. Unfortunately, I sang terribly.

I remember singing Avril Lavigne's ‘My Happy Ending’ when I was around 8 years old, and my mother recorded me to show the rest of the family. Bless her soul, she's always been at the front lines of my passions, especially the one where I become an eccentric musician and performer!”
He further elaborated his beginnings in music:

“Never having played an instrument in my life, and never having read a composition either, my dreams of music and performance were slowly fading away in the face of unrealistic happenings, expectations and other people's opinions. I began my career as an adult as a Software Engineer, and I loved the process of creation. I loved everything about it, even the annoying parts where you sit and yell at your screen for an hour or two, with a cup of tea (no sugar).

I was 18, and I'd just gone from receiving a humble allowance (thanks Dad, I love you!) to cashing in monthly pay-checks of an unbelievable and exorbitant amount of money. (Everything is exorbitant when you're 18). I knew what I had to do, use my money wisely, so I spent all of it on action figures and had nothing left. I tried again with the next pay-check, where instead of buying inanimate toys, I got myself my first keyboard.

Throughout my professional career, I would gradually learn more and more of what it meant to play the keys. Six years later, all I could muster up were simple chords and unimpressive progressions. It wasn't until the day I decided to quit my job as an engineer and pursue this life of music that I finally sat in front of my keyboard and understood what it meant to play."

Music has been quite a fantastical journey for Meers, a musician who did not know how to sing or play! It is nothing short of inspiring, to see the effort and dedication put into music and composition, even years after childhood. Meers is an exceptional proponent of the decision that is following one’s dreams, no matter how daunting or risky the road ahead may seem.
During Covid-19 in early 2020, Meers released a series of original songs and compositions one after the other for an entire month (You can check them out HERE). These catchy melodies would sometimes be created under an hour and posted right after. Remarkable!

Even till now, he has released 6 full albums of 75 songs in just under 2 months. With countless tracks under his belt, we asked Meers to tell us which one he holds closest to his heart:

"'Don't Bring Me Home. The most beloved song I have ever composed is Don't Bring Me Home from my EP "The End Of It All". I remember planning one full day to finish a great song. It was a Saturday, and I already had the instrumental. I'd listened to it every day that week so that I could fall in love with it before I gave it my story. Saturday morning came. I began at 9am and finished at 7pm.

I remember it being one of the most difficult days of my life. Not only was I singing to release myself from the shackles of unfulfilled dreams, but I was battling with a voice in my mind that kept screaming torturous things at me. Why do you think you can do this? Why don't you stick to what you know? Who do you think you are?

This voice didn't subside, but I tried my best to ignore it, and I did. I remember finishing the song and leaving my studio immediately after. I couldn't stand the melody, my voice or the other voice any longer. The next morning when I awoke, I had a feeling that I'd recorded a song the day prior, so I gave it a listen. I couldn't believe how good it was. I couldn't believe that it was me.

I couldn't believe how much pain I had to fight through before completing one song, and here I was having ambitions for an entire EP. That was 7 albums ago, and I wish I could tell the Meers who recorded ‘Don't Bring Me Home’ that he was in for an unbelievable journey, filled with triumphs, surprises, constant failures and ever-increasing challenges."

It has most definitely been an eventful journey in music for Meers. His dedication and effort and passion is full of inspiration, and very telling of the love of music to him.

A very special thank you to Meers for sharing his stories. We look forward to catching up with him soon after to see the adventures his music will surely bring about!
